Ulaid – John McSherry, Donal O’Connor & Sean Og Graham

When three of traditional music’s leading lights collaborate on a new CD you can expect sparks to fly!!   

John McSherry and Dónal O’Connor are the creative force behind the highly innovative traditional band At First Light which has toured the world extensively and produced some of the most influential albums in Irish music today. Sean Óg Graham is regarded as one of Ireland’s finest accompanists and has been touring and recording with the hugely successful and dynamic group BeogaAll three are currently living in County Antrim in the North East of Ireland, and it was inevitable that their musical paths would cross. Together they have produced an outstanding new album of music which they are touring in Oct/Nov 2015.   

This creative and compelling trio will take you on an emotive and uplifting musical journey, from Ireland to the neighbouring Celtic regions and they will chart the path from the ancient music of the Gael to the modern face of traditional Irish music today!  

JOHN McSHERRY is hailed as one of the finest exponents of the art of Uilleann Piping in the world today – “a true master” (Irish Music Magazine).
John has toured the world as both a solo performer and member of several outstanding bands. He was a founding member of top trad bands Tamalin, Lúnasa, At First Light and The Olllam as well as lead instrumentalist with Dónal Lunny’s ground-breaking supergroup ‘Coolfin’.
He is a composer, producer, and arranger with several highly acclaimed solo and collaborative albums to his credit, including his award winning album ‘Soma’. John is also an established studio session musician of world class renown, recording and performing with everybody from Clannad and Sinéad O’Connor to Riverdance and The Corrs.

SEÁN ÓG GRAHAM
 is from Portglenone, Co. Antrim and is one of Ireland’s most dynamic young button accordion players. He has achieved numerous All-Ireland titles and is also a gifted, self-taught guitarist.
A founding member of Beoga. he has several television appearances to his credit, and has appeared as guest soloist with the Irish Harp Orchestra, the Canadian Youth Orchestra and Alan Kelly’s ‘Celtic Legends’ show. He has recorded with various Irish musicians and recently he has been accompanying Solas  members Winifred Horan and Mick McAuley at their ‘Serenade’ concerts in Ireland and Europe.
He is also a talented composer and a wide range of influences is evident in his music writing. Seán Óg is a graduate of the Limerick based Irish World Academy of Music.

DÓNAL O’CONNOR is the son of the celebrated fiddler Gerry O’Connor (La Lugh, Skylark, Kinvara) and renowned singer Eithne Ni Uallachain (Lá Lugh). He has inherited a musical legacy of at least five generations of fiddle playing and countless generations of traditional singing. Highly regarded as a great fiddle player, he was asked at the tender age to take part in the prestigious ‘Music Network Tour of Ireland’ alongside Scottish Guitarist Tony Mc Manus, Fermanagh purveyor of song Gabriel McArdle and ace Belfast Piper John McSherry.
Dónal’s playing was described recently by The irish Times as “immaculate and electrifying” and ”borne out of naked talent and consummate professionalism.”.
He has toured Europe and the USA extensively from a young age as both a lead and backing instrumentalist with a number of bands including La Lugh amongst others. Currently living in Belfast in the North of Ireland, Dónal is part of an extremely vibrant music scene and is regarded as “One of the outstanding players of his generation” (J.B. Vallelly)
