DJ & selector / Percussionist / Producer / Sound System Operator for Uplifter Sound System / Musician Tom Uplifter began selecting early 2002 with humble beginnings after playing guitar in a band for several years who’s influences were heavily drawn from Jamaican Ska and Rocksteady…

After delving into these two genres the UK dub scene and roots reggae acts such as Twinkle Brothers were becoming more heavily referenced sources of musical influence… As the years went on The Uplifter saw collaborations take place with various artists with the similar musical mission around the globe: The Slackers, Groundation, Channel one Sound System, Vibronics, Zion Train, The Black Seeds etc.

The live percussion became an integral part of the live shows adding a refreshing and freely expressive element to performances… Starting off with percussion picked up whilst on travels – Full drum kit, African djembe, then to Turkish Darbuka, bongos – after many years of experimenting with various set ups a custom set up of 1950’s Cuban timbales, snare drum, cowbells, wood block and cymbals has become a permanent fixture to the live shows…

Up to 2012 The Uplifter show has toured extensively across the UK, New Zealand, New York USA and East Coast, Eastern Europe, Croatia and many roads in-between all with the intention of pushing roots reggae and heavyweight dub music to the public armed with live percussion, Animated projections, Singers and MC’s and good positive vibes…

UK festivals include Larmer Tree, Glastonbury, Big Chill, One Love, Outlook festival, Bestival. In late 2009 The Uplifter show toured with Channel One Sound System across the UK on the Dub to Dubstep tour…

2012 sees a new release on 12″ Vinyl alongside Paul Fox (Inner Sanctuary / Shades of Black) whilst constantly on the road promoting roots music to the people.
