Wasps vs Humans
Wasps vs Humans plays ‘The Sitting Room Sessions’ Wednesday March 1. The punk poet has just published his debut novel ‘The Mattress’ which is available to buy at Kerrs Book shop, Clonakilty and will be also be available on the night.
Two years in the planning, writing and execution, punk poet, Wasps vs. Humans (aka Carl Antony Plover) marked his 50th year at the end of 2016, with his debut novel, ‘The Mattress’ through Yellow & Black Publishing.
Throughout the novel, the author weaves between surreal thought patterns echoing Dylan Thomas-esq imagery and colour, contrasting with the more anecdotal, ordinary made extra-ordinary style, leaning towards the likes of Alan Bennett and Mike Leigh.
It’s 1986, thirty years to be exact… in the throes of a midlife crisis, in the midst of a heavy dose of antibiotics and cough mixture, he remembers back to a time in his youth, when bills, a mortgage, kids and the job didn’t matter. It was a time of parties, music, girls, getting up late and no responsibilities.
The book is divided into rooms, each with a story to tell, as he walks through the house remembering his friends once housed within its walls.
‘The Mattress’ mixes fact with fiction, failure and a sense of nearly, as the author draws on previous musical experiences having performed and toured with 80s experimentalists 4,000,000 Telephones, favoured by the likes of John Peel and the alternative music press in the UK and abroad; coupled with a big dollop of reality, adrenalin fuelled dull existence, full of hopes and dreams, friendships lost, comical and tragic, ‘The Mattress’ is bound to seep into the consciousness of anyone who has reached contentment, but then again, what if…
Constantly re-inventing himself, the man behind Wasps vs. Humans is a writer, poet, scriptwriter, musician, father and husband.
